SUMMARY:Marty Tuegel: Long-term Study of Box Turtles in Arizona
DESCRIPTION:Long-term Study of Box Turtles in Arizona\n– Marty Tuegel  –\nRetired, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service\nMonday 26th October | 7pm MST\nLocation information below\nLong-term studies of box turtles are relatively rare and very valuable in understanding the life history of such long-lived animals. I began collecting data on the Ornate Box Turtle, Terrapene ornata, on east side of the Huachuca Mountains in 1996 and worked on the site until 2009. This year I returned to the study site after a 17-year break to answer questions about longevity, survival, habitat, population monitoring, and follow-up on some observations from the first 14-years. I will report preliminary data on these topics.\nMarty Tuegel is a retired Biologist who during his career worked for U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Arizona Game and Fish Department, a private consulting firm, and several academic institutions. Marty received his bachelor’s degree in general biology from Quincy College, Quincy, Illinois and his master’s degree in general biology from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks. He moved to Las Vegas, NV in 1989 and has not left the Desert Southwest since. He has experience working with most groups of vertebrates, insects, mites, spiders, and plants, but gravitates to tortoises and turtles.\nMeetings are free public events in person or virtually:\nEnvironment and Natural Resources 2 (ENR2)\n1064 E Lowell St, Tucson AZ 85719\nRoom S215 – 2nd Floor\nEnter ENR2 from Lowell St (north side)\nRoom opposite side of entrance via elevators (right) or stairs (left)\nParking is FREE in lot south of ENR2 OR $1/hr (card payment only) in garage adjacent (east) ENR2\nTo attend via Zoom:\nhttps://arizona.zoom.us/j/81250516335 ( https://arizona.zoom.us/j/81250516335 )\n
