SUMMARY:Earyn McGee – #FindThatLizard
DESCRIPTION:#FindThatLizard:\nEcology, Science Communication, and Science Outreach\n– Dr. Earyn McGee –\n@Afro_Herper and @LassoedCeramics\n\nTuesday 26th May | 7pm MST\n \n\nDr. Earyn McGee created her award winning social media game #FindThatLizard as an effort to take people into the field with her virtually. In this presentation she’ll discuss her research on 1) the biological responses of riparian species facing climate change, 2) the evolution of #FindThatLizard, and 3) the impacts of her science communication and outreach.\nDr. McGee sells her original ceramic ware to raise funds for her book in preparation “Find That Lizard”. Examples below!\nDr. McGee is passionate about field research, herpetology, and social justice. In graduate school, she studied how drought affects lizards in arid environments and also how to increase the representation of African American women in natural resources careers. She created a popular game, #FindThatLizard, to teach people about lizards and help them build a greater appreciation for them. For her efforts, she’s been recognized as a Forbes 30 under 30 lister, A Grist Fixer, and an emerging leader by the Wildlife Federation. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her friends, family, and her mini poodle, Puca.\nLOS ANGELES — Dr. Earyn McGee, a herpetologist and the creator of the popular #FindThatLizard social media game, looks for lizards in Inglewood’s Kenneth Hahn Park on Sept. 29, 2022. When she finds lizards, she often takes photos to use in the Instagram community game or lassoes them to take stool samples that help in her research of lizard habitats and eating habits as it relates to climate change.Tara Pixley for High Country News\nMeetings are free public events in person or virtually:\nEnvironment and Natural Resources 2 (ENR2)\n1064 E Lowell St, Tucson AZ 85719\nRoom S215 – 2nd Floor\nEnter ENR2 from Lowell St (north side)\nRoom opposite side of entrance via elevators (right) or stairs (left)\nParking is FREE in lot south of ENR2 OR $1/hr (card or digital payment only) in garage adjacent (east) ENR2\nTo attend via Zoom:\nhttps://arizona.zoom.us/j/82054594862 ( https://arizona.zoom.us/j/82054594862 )\n\n
